Since college, this 44-year-old woman and Maddie have been friends. While they were in school, Maddie decided that she no longer wanted a career.

So, Maddie dropped out of college and got married so that she could eventually be a stay-at-home mother once she and her husband had children.

She took a different path than Maddie and worked up the corporate ladder throughout her career prior to getting married and having children.

Because of this, she didn’t date too often while she was in her 20s. Instead, she paid attention only to working and establishing a successful career for herself.

This caused her to grow apart from her friend group, and that included Maddie as well.

But even though she was busy with work, Maddie had a lot going on, too, because she had five children to take care of.

“Over the years, Maddie has pressed a lot that I should get married and that I will not find a good husband if I wait till my 30s. She knows my trauma with relationships in the past. I wanted to properly heal before I started dating,” she said.

Due to the way Maddie pressured her about her dating life, she started purposely distancing herself as time went on.

Eventually, she met the man who became her husband.

When they started trying to have children, she was able to get pregnant when she was 39 without much difficulty. She felt like this was a “miracle” because infertility runs in the family on her mother’s side.

“Maddie was happy for me. We decided to try for another child, and then another miracle, and we ended up having twins. My twins are now 14 months old, so we decided to put them in daycare,” she explained.

After Maddie found out that she was going to work while putting her twins in daycare, she advised her against it, claiming that it was bad for children to be apart from their parents too often.

Then, Maddie told her that she should quit working and be a stay-at-home mother instead, pointing out that since her husband makes a decent living, it was financially doable for them.

It was true that her husband made an impressive income, and they could afford for her to stay home and take care of the twins.

But even though she’s currently been slowing things down careerwise until her children are in preschool, she doesn’t want to give up her job altogether.

“She accused me of being a ‘fake mother’ because 1. I used an epidural during both of my deliveries; 2. I hired nannies, and 3. I put my kids in daycare. She thinks if you are not struggling as a mother, you are not a real mother. She said some pseudo-science stuff about how kids who go to daycare end up becoming spoiled, disrespectful brats because they do not feel a mother’s warmth,” she shared.

Understandably, she had had enough of Maddie shaming her decisions as a mother.

In response, she told Maddie to keep her nose out of other people’s lives, pointing out that Maddie’s children aren’t perfect, considering the fact that they’re constantly in trouble for things.

From her perspective, she is the one who knows the best way to parent her own children.

After some more arguing back and forth through text messages, she finally blocked Maddie after telling her not to talk to her anymore.

Now, she feels awful because she has been close to Maddie for over 20 years. She feels like a bit of a jerk for ending their friendship.

What would you have done if you were in her shoes?
