She’s Refusing To Buy Her Mother-In-Law A Christmas Gift This Year Because Last Year, Her Mother-In-Law Flipped When She Combined Her Birthday And Christmas Present, Even Though The Gift Was A Super Expensive Designer Bag

This woman is currently married, and her mother-in-law’s birthday is on December 27. So, every single year, her mother-in-law makes a “massive fuss” and forbids anyone in the family from mentioning Christmas on her birthday.

In fact, all Christmas decorations have to be taken down in time for her mother-in-law’s celebration, and her mother-in-law won’t even ask her kids what they were gifted for Christmas or anything about the holiday!

And just last year, her mother’s hatred of combined celebrations sparked some serious drama between them.

It all began when she received a pretty sizeable Christmas bonus and decided that, with her newfound funds, she was going to buy everyone a lovely holiday present.

And since she knew that her mother-in-law loved designer purses, she bought a really expensive bag as a gift.

“I got my mother-in-law one she has always wanted, which was more than four times the cost of everyone else’s gifts,” she recalled.

“So, to justify it, I needed it to be a Christmas and birthday gift.”

That’s why, on Christmas Day last year, she handed her mother-in-law the wrapped purse and detailed how the present was for both her birthday and Christmas. She also claimed that her mother-in-law would understand why she combined them after opening the gift.

Well, her mother-in-law actually had a really sour reaction to that and refused to open her present at all!

Instead, her mother-in-law just set the gift aside and sarcastically said, “I’ll open it on my birthday, or else I’ll have nothing to open, will I?”

She was supposed to work on December 27 of last year, though, which meant she wouldn’t be present at her mother-in-law’s birthday party.

So, she tried to say that was why she really wanted her mother-in-law to open up the present on Christmas, being that it was such a special gift.

Regardless, her mother-in-law refused to budge and even accused her of intentionally trying to be hurtful.

“You know how I feel about my birthday being so close to Christmas and how awful it is for me, and you’ve done this on purpose to spoil Christmas for me,” her mother-in-law told her.

Afterward, her mother-in-law also handed her the present back, stormed out of the room, and spent the rest of the day locked in her bedroom, sobbing super loudly!

At that point, her father-in-law got involved, too, and told her to just buy her mother-in-law a different birthday present. But, after the outburst, she simply refused.

“I told my husband I was done with doing the present shopping for my mother-in-law, and he can do it from now on,” she revealed.

Now, to her knowledge, her husband has not yet bought his mom anything for either Christmas or her birthday this year. However, she plans to stick to her word and not help him get anything.

She realizes that may make her a jerk, and she also claims that her husband is bad at gifting.

“But I just don’t think my mother-in-law deserves anything for acting the way she did,” she vented.

Still, with the holidays right around the corner, she can’t help but wonder if refusing to buy her mother-in-law a Christmas present this year is reasonable or not.

Would you want to give your mother-in-law another gift after what happened last year? Why do you think her mother-in-law felt entitled to act that way? What do you think she should do– stick to her word or buy a present anyway?
