One night, TikToker Jess (@suppgorjess) decided to take herself out on a solo date and met this guy who was seated next to her. They exchanged phone numbers and chatted a bit.

A couple of days later, he asked her out. She agreed, and they made plans to go out on a Tuesday night. At first, he mentioned going to a speakeasy, but he ended up wanting to go to a cocktail bar.

On the day of the date, he texted her around noon, saying that he was looking forward to seeing her. Then, he told her to wear something nice.

The comment rubbed her the wrong way. She did not appreciate being told what to wear, especially by someone she barely knew. The place they were supposed to go to was super packed, so they went to a sushi restaurant across the street instead.

“I’m okay with a pivot, but I think what annoyed me most was that obviously there was no plan,” said Jess. “There was no reservation, there was no anything, which he kind of implied he would do.”

That change set the tone for what would be a night filled with mild frustrations. At the restaurant, they were seated at the sushi bar.

Everything was fine, and they were making conversation, but then he revealed that he lived only five minutes away, and he could’ve walked.

The restaurant was 20 minutes away from Jess. She was annoyed that they hadn’t met somewhere more convenient for both of them.

Around 9:30 p.m., he wanted to go to another spot. He called an Uber to a bar 10 minutes away. When they pulled up to the bar, it was packed. All they could do was put their names on the wait-list and walk back outside.

They tried the bar across the street, which appeared to have a space cowboy theme. It was quiet, empty, and lacking any real atmosphere.

Finally, Jess decided to end the date. She felt drained and had no interest in continuing the night. They caught a ride back to the sushi restaurant, and she got in her car and drove home. She hasn’t heard from him since.

In the comments section, several TikTok users shared their thoughts about what this guy’s plans had been. Hopefully, Jess will have better luck with dating in the new year.

“He made a date close to his home, hoping you would go to his place,” commented one user.

“It’s like they try to make you settle for certain behavior [on] the first date to groom you into that lifestyle,” wrote another.

“So valid. I think changing places was him trying to switch up the vibe because he knew it wasn’t going well. Pass,” pointed out a third.
