For over a decade, this dad has been the definition of a dedicated husband, raising his two teenage daughters almost entirely on his own while his wife lived in a different city to run her real estate empire.
He accepted the long-distance without complaint, but everything changed a few months ago. Out of the blue, the wife who was never around became the one who was always watching, leading to a terrifying discovery on his bedroom iPad that has officially ended their marriage.
This 46-year-old man is about to celebrate 16 years of marriage to his 44-year-old wife, and their relationship has been one wild ride. He has two teen daughters he’s raised completely alone, since his way is constantly gone, so she can run her company.
Let’s rewind to 11 years ago, when he got a new job, and they had to relocate to Arizona. His wife had just launched her real estate business, and she argued that she couldn’t move because of it, remaining in California.
So, for over a decade now, his wife has been mainly away, busy being a boss, and she’s only home with him and the girls for a week or two every month. As time wore on, he accepted this as his new normal.
In the summer of 2024, he returned to school so he could become an EMT, and his wife didn’t care. He quickly made friends with his peers, many of whom were female.
“One of them would join me for some hiking and walks, but my wife knew about this, as I told her ahead of time, and was ok with it up to the exact moment in time she wasn’t,” he explained.
“That exact moment in time flipped like a light switch, and suddenly I was a cheater and a liar.”
However, he has never once cheated on his wife, and it’s not something he’s been interested in. His wife then broke into his iPad to read all of his messages.

She intensely questioned him and his daughters about what they were up to. She used their home security cameras and an app to track all of his movements if he dared to leave the house.
She dug through his cell phone records to look at every number he texted or called. She said he had to be cheating on her when he picked up additional work shifts.
The thing is, his wife was never able to prove he was cheating on her, because he wasn’t. He’s been nothing but faithful to her all along.
“This escalated over time. I had to block [the] numbers of my two friends from EMT school at her insistence, and the accusations never ended,” he added.
“She told my daughters that I was cheating and just never relented. My daughters are now 14 and 15, and they know Dad doesn’t cheat, so they didn’t gain much ground there.”
“I’ve been trying everything to convince her that there’s nothing to find and that I’ve never cheated, but these accusations over the past 7 months have done some serious damage that is going to take some work to repair.”
What’s curious is that his wife’s relationship with her business partner imploded seven months ago, which is exactly when she started watching him like a hawk.
He no longer has any privacy, and he’s under constant surveillance from his wife. She calls him if he isn’t where she anticipates he will be.
Yesterday evening, he went to shut off the lights in his bedroom and watch a TV show with one of his daughters when he saw the green lights on his iPad were on, indicating it was recording.
He investigated further and found his wife had installed an app on the device in order to spy on him in his bedroom without his knowledge, and that’s a felony in his state.
He instantly phoned his wife, who pretended she had no clue about the app. She eventually confessed and said she was convinced he was talking to another girl.
“I’m not, but she insisted I am, and that’s why she was justified in putting a camera in our bedroom. I’ve just discovered I’ve been being recorded in my own bed and in my own bedroom for an unknown amount of time,” he continued.
“She, of course, apologized and begged for forgiveness. I said I’m calling the cops, [to] which her response was that I’d be ruining our family.”
“I told her the marriage is over, which she said she won’t agree to a divorce, and that her mom, who was very recently diagnosed with cancer, couldn’t take that stress.”
He’s aware that he allowed his wife to act like this, and it’s only gotten worse, but he doesn’t think their marriage can be repaired.
His only hangup is that he’s working an entry-level job, and he’s currently pursuing his bachelor’s degree in nursing for the next two years, so money will be tight if he files for divorce.
Although a divorce is going to be another hardship for him to deal with, I don’t see how he can stay married to his wife. I bet she’s cheating on him and is projecting, so that’s why she’s spying on him.
What advice do you have for him? Do you see any other options aside from a divorce? When a partner suddenly becomes hyper-paranoid and accuses their spouse of cheating, is it often a sign that they are the ones hiding something?
