Some bar conversations are pretty forgettable; quick small talk and maybe a drink recommendation. But then, there are ones that stop you in your tracks and have endings that you never saw coming.
One time, TikToker Chelsea (@herpaperroute) was bartending when a man came into the bar looking disheveled and upset. He asked her to pour him a really strong drink and confided in her that on this day 30 years ago, he lost the love of his life.
He started telling her a story about how he and his girlfriend from 30 years ago had an amazing relationship that they kept a secret from her parents because her parents were strict and religious.
They made plans to run away together and get married. One day, he dropped her off at home after a great date. He didn’t hear from her for days.
He tried calling the house, but no one answered. He kept calling for weeks, and just as he was about to give up, the girl’s mom finally picked up the phone.
She told him never to call or show up at their house again and threatened to call the police on him. He was terrified and didn’t want to get arrested, so he moved on with his life. But he has still never forgotten her. They grew up in West Vancouver.
Chelsea asked him if he had ever tried reaching out to her or looking her up on Facebook. He had no idea what happened to her and didn’t even know what Facebook was.
Chelsea pulled out her phone and helped him look up this woman. After going through the profiles of a couple of people, they finally found her.
Most of her profile was private, but they could see that she had a 30-year-old daughter. The daughter had the exact same face as the man sitting at the bar. He immediately broke down in tears.

“We just realized that potentially the reason why her parents banned her from seeing this man was because she was pregnant with his baby, and they didn’t approve of him or whatever reasons they had,” said Chelsea.
“They kept it a secret, and they kept him out of the kid’s life. So, that was crazy.”
In the comments section, many TikTok users were quick to react. Some expressed their frustration at the idea that he never tried harder to find her, while others were outraged at the parents’ actions.
“Boy math is being obsessed with the one that got away, yet never [bothering] to find them,” commented one user.
“Some parents are truly inhumane. Unless they suspected abuse, there is no excuse for this cruelty to their daughter, this man, and the baby,” pointed out another.
“That should be illegal. They should have to notify you if you had a kid,” wrote a third.
