One day, TikToker Marie Anne (@not_ur_average12) was at work, typing away on her computer. It seemed like just another ordinary workday.

She had no idea that she would be at the center of a shocking and tragic situation by late morning.

At 11 a.m., her boss walked through the door with alarming news. He informed her that the other engineer was not coming into work because he had just killed his wife. At first, the information felt almost unreal.

The other engineer did not elaborate on the situation before abruptly hanging up the phone. There were no clear details. So, they tried calling him back multiple times.

When he finally picked up, he was screaming and crying hysterically. They couldn’t understand much of what he was saying.

Through the panic, he apologized profusely for not being able to come into work and kept saying that he felt bad for what he had done. They attempted to convince him to come to the building, but he claimed that he was on his way to the police station to turn himself in.

Marie did not believe that he was headed to the police station, so she took action. She pulled up his employee file, looked for his address, and contacted the police to do a welfare check at his residence.

A couple of hours later, she received a phone call from a detective, asking to come in to speak with her. Sure enough, her coworker had murdered his wife with a knife, and he was arrested. He found out that his wife had been cheating on him with her coworker, so he snapped.

Behind the headlines and horror of the crime lies a devastated and traumatized family. They had a pair of twins together, and their mother-in-law lived with them.

Marie’s coworker didn’t have any other family in the area. The kids ended up going with the mother-in-law. Their lives were forever altered in an instant.

The police found him driving in circles around his apartment complex, not on the way to the police station. He hadn’t turned himself in; he was too busy spiraling. He is now serving time in prison.

The experience left a lasting impact on Marie. She has been around for the tragic circumstances or deaths of other coworkers before, but it was nothing like this.

“That was one of the worst days I ever had at work,” said Marie. “You would think I would go home early that day, but I finished my shift and then took a couple of days off.”

It just goes to show how the people we interact with on a daily basis may be carrying struggles we never see until it’s too late.
