If you were gifted a baby shower present, but the gift-giver took it back because your baby passed away, how would you feel?

This 25-year-old woman had a baby shower when she was seven months pregnant. Her parents gave her three grams of gold jewelry (bangles) as a baby shower gift.

She asked her mom and dad why they spent so much of their money on gold, and they told her don’t worry, they would later on take it back and exchange it for something different after she gave birth to her baby.

You might think this is weird, but her parents have made this into a tradition and did the same thing for her sister-in-law at her baby shower.

Sadly, she gave birth, but her baby was stillborn. She stayed with her mom and dad’s house afterward, and all of her baby shower gifts were still there.

One month after the tragedy, she moved home to be with her husband, but forgot to take the gold jewelry with her. Her mom ended up giving her her baby shower presents, but that was missing.

She asked her mom about the jewelry, but she was evasive.

“Then she finally told something like, since they initially planned to take it anyway to give back after the baby was born, she held to it,” she explained.

“I was furious and asked her if she took it because my baby is no more. My mom denied it and said that the gift was mine and I could take it if I wanted.”

“I got angry and clarified that it was not about money or jewelry, and that I never asked for it in the first place — they chose to give it. They then said they only have it because they would give it back anyway when the time comes, referring to the next baby.”

That made her even more upset, and she wanted to know why her mom would think she would have another baby so soon. She had just suffered the loss of her firstborn just two months earlier.

Anyway, she told her mom that she was not interested in having a second child, and that they could do what they wanted to with the gold jewelry.

She’s still hurt that her parents felt the need to take back her baby shower gift simply because her baby didn’t end up making it.

“My parents have already been giving me a hard time throughout this situation, and it feels like I’ve finally had enough. I am really hurt by what has happened and don’t know what to do,” she continued.

“I have wanted to have a good relationship with my parents, even though they behave in a narcissistic way. Now, I don’t know anymore. Am I overreacting?”

It’s so sad that her parents felt the need to take her baby shower gift back due to her loss. That’s just such a heartbreaking thing to do to someone.

Maybe she should take some time apart from her parents for this one.
