This twenty-eight-year-old woman has a younger sister named Jodie, who is twenty-three. Jodie is a single mother to her niece, who is six, and still lives with their parents. Jodie’s boyfriend also lives there– who she has been dating for a couple of months now.

Anyway, since Jodie has a lot on her plate, she often pitches in as Jodie’s older sister to help out with her niece.

She would frequently pick up her niece from school or babysit whenever she was free in order to give Jodie some free time to work.

So, when Jodie randomly accused her of having a gambling problem and basically ruined her reputation last month, she could not have been more hurt.

It all began in early October when out of the blue, Jodie claimed that she had been using the family computer at their parent’s home to go on gambling websites.

Moreover, Jodie accused her of signing up for these sites using their mother’s debit card whenever she was babysitting her niece.

She was totally taken aback by the finger-pointing, though, and quickly told Jodie that was far from the truth. She also asked why the heck her sister would ever think that.

“And Jodie explained that money was disappearing from our mom’s bank account and that she had checked the computer’s browsing history and gambling websites came up,” she recalled.

Even after hearing Jodie’s reasoning, though, she was honestly really offended that her sister thought she would ever do something like that. According to her, she has never had a gambling problem and would never steal from anyone.

So, she ended up telling Jodie that their mom’s credit card being used was obviously awful. However, there was no way it was her gambling on the family computer.

Unfortunately, though, it appears that Jodie never actually believed her. In fact, her sister ended up talking to their entire extended family and claiming that she had been stealing their mother’s money to go on gambling websites.

And ever since then, she has been forced to deal with familial turmoil. Practically everyone in her extended family now believes that she is a “horrible person,” and many of her family members have even blocked her on Facebook because of it.

But, as she repeatedly told her sister, it turned out that she truly was never the culprit behind her mom’s depleting bank account– because just one week after Jodie spread all of these lies, her sister got back in touch with her.

It was at that point that she learned the truth from Jodie. Apparently, her sister claimed to have found a gambling website on her boyfriend’s phone.

Then, Jodie connected the dots and finally realized that her boyfriend had been the one stealing their mother’s money.

Despite coming to this realization, though, Jodie shockingly still refused to apologize to her for first jumping to conclusions and, second, ruining her entire reputation with their extended family.

“Sure, I never speak to them [her extended family] anyway, but it is still a terrible reputation to have– especially when it is undeserved,” she vented.

Yet, for whatever reason, Jodie still does not see the situation that way. Instead, her sister claimed that the misunderstanding was actually her fault because she apparently “acted guilty” and became “too defensive” after Jodie voiced the accusations. I mean, wouldn’t you get defensive, too?

Anyway, even though this whole ordeal happened in early October, it has continued to cause problems to this day– because a couple of weeks ago, it was Jodie’s birthday. And, of course, Jodie decided to throw herself a big party with all of their extended family members.

Understandably, though, she did not want to attend the party after having her name dragged through the mud. So, she opted to give Jodie her birthday presents a few days early and ended up refusing to go to the party.

“I didn’t want to go because I didn’t want to deal with all of the questions and judgment, and I was still really angry at Jodie for not even apologizing for what she did,” she explained.

And her parents were, thankfully, understanding of this– even though Jodie was utterly pissed. In fact, Jodie actually ended up calling her a total jerk for not attending the party.

Then, her sister had the nerve to say that if she was going to “be that way,” then she was petty and should not bother being a part of the family anymore.

So now, she has feeling utterly confused. Of course, she still believes that Jodie had no right to go behind her back and spread lies after she told her sister that she was not stealing from their mother or gambling.

But, at the same time, she has been left wondering if refusing to attend her sister’s birthday party following the misunderstanding really was a petty thing to do.

Why do you think Jodie did not initially believe that she was not behind the gambling? Can you imagine if your sibling went behind your back and spread these lies to your extended family members? Would you have gone to Jodie’s birthday party after she refused to apologize or clear the air?
