This 29-year-old woman is currently married to her husband, who is 31. And every single year, her husband’s family goes on an annual camping trip– which is a whopping 10 days long.

Now, she and her husband have been together for the last ten years, so she’s been attending the trips for a whole decade.

“And about five or six of them have been over my birthday,” she said.

So, during last year’s camping trip, she decided to put her foot down and make her feelings known. More specifically, she told all of her in-laws and her husband that if they planned the annual camping trip over her birthday again this year, she simply wouldn’t go.

After all, she is turning 30 this year, and she wanted to throw a big birthday party with her friends and family members to celebrate the milestone.

She also never usually celebrates her birthday with parties. Instead, she mainly just goes out to dinner with her family.

“But I just feel like 30 is a big birthday, and I wanted to have a ‘death to my 20s’ themed party and get a party bus and hit up some bars,” she explained.

Well, lo and behold, her in-laws completely ignored everything she said last year and planned to camp right over her birthday again. In fact, her birthday will take place in the literal middle of the trip. So, they will be gone both the weekend before her birthday, as well as the weekend afterward.

Upon finding that out, she tried to talk to her husband and express her upset. However, he wasn’t understanding whatsoever and actually told her, “Who cares.” Plus, he claimed that they could just celebrate when they got home.

On top of all that, her husband even admitted that he would still go on the camping trip and leave her alone on her birthday regardless of whether she decided to go or stay home.

“I love camping and hiking,” she vented, “But I just really wanted an actual birthday party this year.”

That’s why she’s now considering sticking to her word and skipping the annual trip. Still, she can’t help but wonder if missing camping with her in-laws would make her a jerk or not.

How would you feel if your in-laws totally disregarded your wishes like that? Why do you think her husband isn’t backing her? Do you think she should celebrate her birthday the way she wants? What would you do?
