According to CBS News, a surrogate is currently pregnant with a Chinese billionaire's baby. The billionaire, Xu Bo, allegedly has at least 100 children via surrogates from the United States, granting them American citizenship at birth.

When CBS News broke the news to the surrogate, she was shocked. She felt "blindsided" and "misled." It is unclear exactly how many children this man has, but so far, he has admitted to having at least 12.

"In a note to our surrogate, he said that he wants 13 kids," said Katrina Kauffman, a correspondent for CBS. "He is in a custody battle with an ex-girlfriend over 11 children, and that same ex-girlfriend claims he may have as many as 300 kids."

Just this week, he posted a photo on a Chinese social media platform called Weibo, and the photo featured a bunch of children. He has neither confirmed nor denied the allegations that he may have at least 100 kids.

He even said in a statement that having more children brings more blessings, and he is striving for the development of the Chinese nation.

The surrogate, who is being referred to as Judy for privacy, has learned that he is also working with about 20 other surrogates. She is now starting to feel like part of a "baby factory."

The whole investigation began with a couple in Arcadia, California, when more than 20 kids born to surrogates were removed from their custody.

"The more we've looked into this, we've discovered that there are several cases of couples who are using multiple surrogates, often within a very short time span to build these big families," said Kauffman.

When asked if she were told anything about the family she would be a surrogate for, Judy said that all she knew was a single father wanted to have a big family.

As of July 9, 2026, Judy was 12 weeks pregnant, and she is very conflicted about the child she is carrying.

"She recognizes that she made a decision to get pregnant, even though she had learned some information about the intended parent, this Chinese billionaire, and this supposed brood of children," said Kauffman.

"She's a single mom. A big part of why she's doing this is to make their lives better, to earn some money so that she can take good care of her child."

"But she also went into this because she was hoping to help another family, and now she really doesn't know what kind of family she's bringing this child into, and she's extremely concerned."

CBS News has spoken to a total of 32 surrogates as part of its investigation into this industry. In the comments section of a video posted to TikTok, many people shared their opinions about the situation and surrogacy in general.

"As a retired surrogate, shame on whoever is keeping crucial information from her, disallowing her from being able to provide informed consent. An agency, an attorney, the clinic, etc. There's no way he's doing this without someone aiding and abetting," commented one person.

"A lot of surrogates are discovering the same horrors as many birth mothers through adoption—that the receiving parents are often not who they present themselves to be," wrote another.

A surrogate, believing she was carrying a child for a single father, is actually having a baby for a Chinese billionaire who allegedly has more than 100 kids. CBS News broke the news to her. Leaked documents obtained by CBS News named the intended father as Xu Bo, a Chinese billionaire and video game executive. Xu Bo has been reported to have over 100 children through U.S. surrogates, granting them American citizenship at birth. A former partner involved in a custody lawsuit against Xu Bo claims he has as many as 300 children. He has disputed these numbers, and has said in a statement that he has custody of 12 children born through surrogacy in the U.S. CBS News' Katrina Kauffman interviewed the surrogate – who we are referring to as "Judy" to keep her identity private – who said she was blindsided to learn about Xu Bo. CBS News spoke to 32 surrogates for an investigation into the industry. Head to the linked article for more on this investigation. #surrogacy #pregnancy #surrogate
