After Her Boyfriend Agreed To Become The Guardian Of His Half-Sister, Whose Mother Is Terminally Ill, She Called His Half-Sister’s Mother Selfish For Expecting A 22-Year-Old To Take On That Responsibility

This 22-year-old woman has a boyfriend named Malcolm, who is also 22. And Malcolm has a half-sister, Elena, who is 12.
Her boyfriend and Elena share the same dad. Unfortunately, though, he was never involved in either of their lives.
So, Malcolm and Elena were both raised by their respective mothers– who eventually became very close friends. This meant that the pair grew up seeing each other often.
Just a few years ago, though, Malcolm’s mom moved abroad. And last year, Elena’s mom, Sandra, was diagnosed with cancer.
Sandra did go through treatment, but it was ultimately determined that there was nothing the doctors could do. So, they are now trying to make Sandra comfortable since the mother is expected to pass away sometime this year.
Sandra and Elena also have no other family. So, Malcolm has spent much of his time helping care for his half-sister by driving her to school, cooking meals, and more.
More recently, though, her boyfriend sat her down with news that she was pretty outraged by.
Apparently, Sandra had asked to speak with Malcolm and ultimately asked if he would be willing to take custody of Elena. Sandra claimed to understand if he said no, but if he did say yes, she asked that he take custody sooner as opposed to later.
That way, Elena would have time to adjust to having Malcolm as a guardian before Sandra passed away.

So, in the short term, Sandra asked if Malcolm would move in with them for the transition period. Then, he would have access to Sandra’s sizable life insurance policy, and savings account in order to take care of Elena.
“And to my surprise, he agreed to all of this without consulting me,” she said.
Now, it is crucial to note that she and Malcolm have actually only been together for about six months. Regardless, she apparently still felt like she should have been asked before he accepted guardianship of his half-sister.
On top of that, she also asked her boyfriend if he felt too young to be taking on all of that responsibility. And while Malcolm admitted that he did feel a bit young, he claimed that he was still going to do it for Elena.
Afterward, she claimed that without any further discussion, her boyfriend subleased his apartment before moving in with Sandra and Elena.
Then, this past Saturday, she decided to stop by Sandra’s home to pick up Malcolm for lunch. By the time she arrived, though, her boyfriend still had not gotten home from work.
So, she waited for him with Sandra and started making some small talk. During their conversation, Sandra also expressed her gratitude for Malcolm and called him a really sweet boy.
And at that moment, she seemingly decided to confront Sandra about the decision to make her boyfriend Elena’s guardian.
First, she asked if her boyfriend was really the only option and brought up Malcom’s mother instead. Sandra, though, claimed that Elena was already losing enough. So, it did not feel fair to force the 12-year-old to move abroad on top of the grief or ask Malcolm’s mother to move back to raise Elena.
She was not very understanding of Sandra’s reasoning, though, and wound up telling the mother off.
“I said I found the whole thing a little selfish,” she revealed.
“Malcolm is only 22. He should not be tied down raising a child.”
At that point, Sandra reportedly got defensive and claimed that she wished that she did not have to ask Malcolm. Sandra also pointed out how he had already agreed to the arrangement.
She did not stop there, though, and asked Sandra what else her boyfriend was supposed to say. After that, Sandra just became really upset and ultimately asked her to leave. Once she left, Malcolm also apparently heard what happened from Sandra. So, she wound up receiving a furious call from her boyfriend– who screamed at her for upsetting Sandra.
While on the phone, she claimed that she was just trying to defend her boyfriend and point out other options that Sandra might not have considered.
“But Malcolm told me to butt out and to get on board with this or walk away,” she recalled.
Ever since the argument, she and her boyfriend also have not spoken. And despite her seeing Elena at the mall this past Sunday, the little girl just ignored her.
So, she decided to confide in her own mom about the situation– who ultimately told her that she messed up big time. Now, this has left her wondering whether calling Sandra selfish for asking her 22-year-old boyfriend to become Elena’s guardian makes her a total jerk or not.
Do you think she had a right to get involved? Can you believe she started harassing Sandra, given everything else that is going on? Is her boyfriend doing the right thing? Will she ever be able to reconcile this situation after acting like that?
