She’s Refusing To Give Her Stepsister A Diamond Necklace Because It Was A Family Heirloom Gifted To Her By Her Grandma, And Her Stepsister Just Wants To Sell It

When this 20-year-old woman was younger, her mother got married to her stepfather. And in addition to gaining a new stepdad, she also gained a stepsister named Abby– who is also 20.
Now, in the beginning, she claimed that they were super close. After high school, though, things reportedly changed in their relationship.
While she went away to college, Abby stayed home to attend community college. Afterward, Abby reportedly dropped out of school to pursue a different opportunity– but that fell through, too.
She first noticed things were “off” between them when she went home for Thanksgiving break. Around that time, Abby kept blowing her off and basically refused to talk to her.
Then, come Christmas break, the same thing happened all over again. She kept calling her stepsister and sending texts, but Abby never responded to any of them.
So, she was seriously confused and decided to confide in her mom about the whole situation.
Well, her mom wound up telling her that Abby was probably just jealous. And at that point, she opted to just give her stepsister some space.
Abby’s birthday was right around the new year, though. So, she decided to order her stepsister some food on Doordash, send a bouquet of flowers, and message her a corny “happy birthday” text.
“I didn’t do any of it for her to ‘praise’ me, but I did expect a text back. But I got nothing,” she recalled.

Then, about three weeks later, it also happened to be her birthday. So, she decided to fly home to have dinner with her family. Spoiler alert: Abby opted not to attend the dinner.
She was not too upset about it, though, because her grandma ended up giving her a beautiful surprise. More specifically, her grandmother gifted her a diamond necklace family heirloom.
Apparently, her grandma had worn that necklace every single day. Plus, when she was a little girl, her grandma promised her that the piece of jewelry would someday be hers.
After she left the dinner, arrived home, and walked into the living room, though, all hell broke loose. Abby was reportedly in the living room, too, spotted her wearing the necklace and became enraged.
In fact, she detailed how Abby jumped up from the couch, ran over, and got about three inches from her face before screaming at her about the necklace. Apparently, her stepsister claimed to have loved the necklace and said that she had begged to inherit it.
It is crucial to note, though, that Abby never had a good relationship with their grandparents.
“My stepfather’s parents both passed not too long after they got married, and Abby has always hated going over to my grandparents. And she is not always nice to them,” she revealed.
So, after Abby started freaking out on her, she decided to snap right back. More specifically, she told her stepsister that the necklace was a family heirloom and was always going to be given to her.
Abby did not take that well, though, and accused her of implying that her stepsister was not family. Then, she even got called a self-centered jerk!
Clearly, things were getting out of hand at that point– and she did not want to keep fighting. So, she told Abby to stop starting with her.
Still, her stepsister did not get the message. Instead, Abby claimed that since the necklace was supposed to go to the first granddaughter, they should sell the piece of jewelry and split the money in order to make everything fair.
That suggestion only frustrated her more, though, and she ended up telling Abby no. She also pointed out how her stepsister did not care or even appreciate the history behind her grandma’s necklace. Rather, she accused Abby of not loving her grandparents and only wanting the money the necklace could provide.
“They [her grandparents] were just money signs to Abby,” she vented.
Anyway, after she was honest with her stepsister, Abby stormed upstairs, packed a bag, and left the house.
Ever since then, Abby has also refused to return calls from anyone in the family. Plus, her stepsister claimed that she would only return home if they agreed to sell the necklace and split the proceeds or if she just gave Abby the necklace altogether.
Now, both her mother and stepfather have taken Abby’s side– accusing her of taking it too far and being a jerk. They also believe she should just split the necklace with Abby in order to end all of the drama.
Quite frankly, though, she refuses to do that. And now, she has been left wondering whether not giving Abby the family heirloom really makes her a jerk or not.
Why do you think Abby started blowing her off after they graduated high school? Is it understandable why she wants to keep the necklace if it has history and her grandma always said it was for her? Do you believe it would be right for Abby to sell a family heirloom? How would you handle this situation?
