This girl is single and has a close relationship with her friends Kevin and Sarah, who are dating, and Mike.

Mike has a girlfriend named Ann, whom he’s been dating for two years, and she is starting to become friends with her as well.

The two couples often go on double dates together and are all extremely close, but whenever she is invited to join them, she always feels like the fifth wheel!

A few weeks before the July 4th holiday, Kevin and Sarah asked her if she would like to join them and Mike and Ann at a lakehouse for the weekend.

She was a little leery, knowing that she would probably feel like the odd one out, but Kevin and Sarah insisted that they wouldn’t let that happen.

“We even planned some stuff to do in groups. I wasn’t totally convinced, but I said fine, I needed some time away anyway,” she explained.

However, as soon as the group got to the lakehouse, she noticed that things were turning out like they always did whenever she hung out with them.

Almost none of the group activities that they had planned ended up happening because the couple’s activities took more priority.

For instance, she had planned to go fishing with Kevin and Mike, but by the time the guys got back from their couple’s hike that morning, they were too tired to do anything else.

“Meanwhile, I was roped into doing stuff they wanted to do, and I was mostly ignored. Kevin did try to involve me somewhat, but it felt more like a pity thing,” she said.

She felt so lousy that she decided to drive by herself to a nearby mall to be away from the group for a couple of hours.

While she was gone, Sarah called her to ask her if she was okay, and she shared with Sarah how she was feeling like the fifth wheel yet again.

Sarah apologized to her, and in an attempt to make it up to her, they started a movie marathon that night that they knew she would like.

However, it seemed to her that everyone else was bored and was talking to each other during the movies. So, after the second one, she went to sleep.

The following morning, the group asked her if she was okay, but she expressed how much it hurt to feel like the fifth wheel yet again after being promised that an effort would be made to avoid that.

The group tried to explain to her that they were not intentionally trying to make her feel that way and that they were just taking things day by day on the trip and going with the flow.

But what Ann said to her next really made her upset! Ann claimed that she was just envious of the couples and that maybe she would be less mad and upset if she had a partner of her own, and told her that jealousy wasn’t a good look.

“I wish I had some clever response, but I said if that’s how you feel, then I’m out. They tried to stop me, but I told them that it was best that I left,” she stated.

After telling the group that she had gotten back home, she hadn’t really spoken to any of them since. She felt like she calmed down about the whole situation on the drive home, and now that a couple of weeks have passed since the incident, she’s wondering if she did overreact.

Maybe she was just jealous and took it out on her friends and their happiness.

Do you think that leaving the lakehouse was an overreaction? Or should the group have made more of an effort to make her feel more included? Do you think that Ann’s comment crossed the line?
