If your spouse's coworker bought them an expensive present, how would you feel about it? Would you find it inappropriate, or would it concern you?

This man has a very bad feeling about one of his wife's male coworkers, who is way higher up in the company than his wife is, and their departments do not interact.

Despite that, his wife is getting a lot of special attention and even gifts from this coworker. This man bought his wife chocolates, a T-shirt, and then an expensive watch to celebrate her getting into college.

"The situation with the watch is particularly uncomfortable for me. She had explicitly asked me to buy her that exact watch for her upcoming birthday," he explained.

"Apparently, she mentioned at work to a female coworker how much she liked the watch, and this higher-up colleague overheard the conversation. He then went out and bought it for her before my birthday gift to her could even happen."

"They don't text on personal phones, but they interact constantly on Microsoft Teams during work hours, sharing personal thoughts, emotional states, and venting about work. As far as I know, he does not give gifts or this level of specialized attention to anyone else in the company."

His wife let him see the watch and then wanted to know if he was angry. He was quite calm as he reassured her that he wasn't, yet thought the gift was unethical and inappropriate, considering the man's position in the company.

Well, that made his wife instantly irate. She twisted it around and accused him of not being happy for her getting recognized at the office.

He fully supports his wife's career, but he's having a hard time connecting that kind of a pricey present to professional recognition. He thinks the watch crosses serious boundaries.

"Is this behavior normal or ethical in a corporate environment? Am I overreacting, and how would you handle her turning this back on me?" he wondered.

I do believe his wife is entertaining an emotional affair with her coworker, at the very least, and rubbing it in his face. It's not cool that her coworker bought her such an expensive gift, and that would make me nervous if I were him.

His wife's coworker is definitely interested in her, and his wife is encouraging him to cross those lines.
