If your spouse said that they were planning on separating from you if you failed to get pregnant, how would you feel about that?
This 40-year-old woman cannot get pregnant, and her 41-year-old husband recently revealed to her that a separation is on his mind because of that.
"We’ve been trying for [a] little over a year with no success. He told me today that he feels like he may be missing out on something that is very important to him in life," she explained.
"I also really wanted to be a mom but never really thought about separating over this issue because I love his companionship and I always thought that would be enough if we never had kids."
"I’m glad he was honest with me and opened up, but now I don’t know if it’s worth continuing the relationship and trying, or to just end it and let him find someone else to try with? Does anyone have any advice for us on how to navigate this and what to do?"
She only just started seeing doctors to figure out why she's infertile, and she's concerned that if they get to the bottom of this and she still can't have a baby, her husband will absolutely leave her.
I can't believe that her husband still wants to separate when she's trying to figure out why she can't get pregnant. I'm worried that if she invests more time and money into pursuing a pregnancy, she's right; her husband very well could still leave her, and that's heartbreaking.
I don't think it's worth putting additional effort into having a baby with a man who is liable to walk away at any point in time.
Also, I'm surprised her husband is blaming her and not considering that he's part of the equation and could very well be the reason they're infertile.

With that in mind, it comes across like her husband is grasping at any excuse to end their marriage or at least see what else is out there while he decides what to do (which is what I think he's looking for with a separation first and not jumping right to a divorce).
What advice do you have for her?
