If your spouse expressed their interest in an open marriage, but you didn't want that at all, would you consider your marriage on its last legs?

This woman's 35-year-old husband just told her that he wants to have an open marriage. He droned on and on about anthropology and sociology to back up his argument for wanting to pursue other women.

He even tried to say monogamy is abnormal and just some rule that people blindly follow. Now, her husband first addressed opening up their relationship several years ago.

She was deeply depressed, and their romance suffered. That was just a brief point in time, and at the moment, everything has been great between them. Her husband even confirmed that to her.

But anyway, the first time her husband brought up an open marriage, she shut it down and responded that she is not interested in that at all.

So you can imagine her shock when he tried to get her to go along with an open marriage recently. She did discuss it with him and ultimately caved to his wishes because she was terrified of losing him.

Later on that evening, she couldn't quit sobbing. Despite saying yes, she felt so hurt. She then said to her husband in the middle of the night that she changed her mind and preferred to separate.

"He says he loves me very much and that my happiness is his priority. He says he is willing to give up having an open relationship if that means losing me," she explained.

"I love him too, but I feel like something inside me has broken. I don't know how to move on or go back to where we were. I feel like throwing up."

She's not sure if she should take some time to try to see how this plays out, or if her husband is giving her a sign that they are no longer compatible.

While her husband has backtracked and said he will stick to monogamy because he loves her, she's worried their marriage is broken and that he will resent her for not letting him have other women.

She's left wondering if this is an issue they can overcome, or if this means their marriage is doomed.

I hate how her husband tried to play this off as an intellectual decision. It's not. I would respect him more if he were more forthcoming about his intentions.

I don't believe she can fix her marriage because her husband's trying to seek out other women instead of telling her that his needs aren't being met or that he wants things to be different between them.

Oh, and she already told him no once, and here he is still trying to push her to go along with an open marriage, so a separation and divorce are in order.
