This Viral TikTok Of One Little Girl Throwing A Temper Tantrum While Opening A Surprise On Christmas Morning Has Got Social Media Users Everywhere In A Heated Debate
Every year, right after Christmas day passes, our social media feeds are flooded with heartwarming live video reactions of adorable kids unwrapping their holiday presents. And most of the time, these children are beyond grateful for their gifts.
This season alone, I have personally seen tween boys cry over receiving PS5s– which have been notoriously hard to find.
Little girls, too, have expressed their sheer excitement over receiving everything from dolls and playsets to electronics and clothes.
But, it appears that one controversial TikTok has taken the Christmas cake this year, and it involves two young girls– Olivia and Millie– unwrapping suitcases on the holiday morning.
The video was posted on the social media platform by the little girl’s mother, Angela Hare, and captured the entire unwrapping of two large boxes– one for each girl.
It is impossible to know what each of Angela’s daughters thought was inside the boxes. But, after peeling off the wrapping paper, it became clear that her younger daughter, Millie, was pretty disappointed.
The girls ultimately pulled out two brand new suitcases– which, for many, would be a really great gift by itself.
Angela’s older daughter, Olivia, also appeared to stay positive about the gift, even if she was not over the moon about it at first.
Millie, though, started to throw a temper tantrum.
“Nooo! I wanted a princess one!” the little girl whined before hitting the box away from her.
Still, what Millie and Olivia did not know was that inside those suitcases, there were even more surprises. So, Angela asked if Millie would like to open up the luggage, but the little girl refused to open up the present and just continued crying.
At that point, Olivia was told she could just look inside her suitcase alone. And she displayed a lot of patience and gratitude while opening the contents of the luggage.
Inside, there were numerous Disney-themed T-shirts, one of which included some Minnie Mouse ears on it. And eventually, after getting to the bottom of the shirt stack, the wheels began to turn in Olivia’s mind, and she asked her mom if they would be going to Disney World.
Angela did not give up the surprise there, though, and simply told her eldest daughter to keep unwrapping. Then finally, at the bottom of the suitcase, there was a heartfelt message from Angela and her husband– describing how the girls would be going on a four-day Disney cruise!
Throughout this entire special moment, though, Millie was very resistant to opening the gifts at all. And even after the Disney cruise was announced, the little girl still seemed to be a bit moody.
So, it appears that Angela posted this TikTok on the social platform, thinking that it would be perceived as funny or harmless. She even jokingly captured the video, “When your Christmas surprise doesn’t go as planned.”
But, her daughter’s seemingly ungrateful response went completely viral and sparked a serious divide in the comment section. The TikTok received over 10.5 million views, gained one million likes, and spurred nearly sixty thousand comments from users arguing over Millie’s behavior.
Some condemned the little girl for her reaction and attitude, even going so far as to say that Millie is the reason they don’t want children. On top of that, they also berated Angela for how Millie was not reprimanded.
“We are all going to Disney World except the little one, lol,” joked one user.
“The eye rolls, the kicks, the yelling, the ungratefulness… and NO punishment!!! I am over grateful for my kiddos after this,” opined another.
“This was such a perfect opportunity to teach young Millie a thing or two,” agreed a fourth.
Still, a bunch of other viewers came to Millie’s rescue and tried to reason that the little girl was set up for failure. More specifically, countless commenters believe that Millie’s young age, coupled with the drawn-out surprise and lack of sleep from Christmas, was not a good recipe for a happy reaction.
“‘Let’s give this very young kid a suitcase full of shirts and a piece of paper she can’t even read.’ Even the older kid had a hard time getting it, c’mon,” commented one user.
“She’s literally a toddler. Why is everyone so upset at her reaction,” wrote a second user.
“[To] the people commenting on this video about a child: she’s little. Kids are so overstimulated on Christmas, and [there are] one hundred other reasons to grant these parents some grace. I hope the haters have perfectly behaved children one hundred percent of the time because I sure don’t,” said a third.
Angela has yet to respond to any of these comments, and it remains to be seen if she will. But, in the meantime, the TikTok poses a great question to consider for future Christmas celebrations: should surprises be personalized for a child’s age and understanding?
